Please read my humble monograph on the importance of the User Experience
Set goals and decide how to prioritize them. It is important to get stakeholders to discuss what they are hoping to achieve.
User research studies and testing can really help understanding tasks and challenges that users are already facing or might potentially have.
Discover the right problem, develop the best solution. Draw insights from the research and begin to develop design patterns that will help figure out problems and begin to solve them.
Refine the most efficient workflow possible. Put ideas in front of users and get feedback. This involves lots of iterations and repetitions. The process will start with very low fidelity work like paper prototypes on index cards and wireframes. The goal is to avoid design and stylistic discussions.
Create content and digital assets and bring the discussion to stylistic matters. User testing of high-fidelity prototypes can validate paths chosen in the design phase. This is where the details are finalized and the site is brought to the launch stage.
Create the ultimate user test experience. Hopefully you will be able to keep making it better through testing and feedback.
